WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) – On April 21, a community closet dedication took place at the former Alamo Gym in Wichita Falls.
After working for over a year, Child Care Partners, Parent Talk Line and the Foster Parent Association have come together to open the closet to support foster parents and children in need.
According to the Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce, more than 3,000 clothing sets are available for school social workers, foster parents and local social workers.
“When children are first taken into care, sometimes they come with nothing and we want to make sure they feel comfortable going to school and feel good about themselves” said Keri Goines, executive director of Child Care Partners and vice president of the Foster Parent Association. . “So it’s very important and not only that, but we know there are other children in our community who have needs.”
The community closet is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
“If it’s simple, has pants without holes or a good pair of shoes, we want them to be able to have it,” Goines said. “That self-esteem is important. This way school counselors can use the clothes closet or really anyone in the community.
