Dallas Designing Dreams Helping People Achieve “Creative Dreams” – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
All nonprofits have their goal, but for Dallas Designing Dreams, that goal is to help people live theirs.
“Dallas Designing Dreams is a non-profit organization committed to helping people achieve their creative dreams,” said founder Arthur Porter. “Found by [me] and master seamstress Carla Robertson, Dreams provides personal training and support for artists and designers who dream of creating and marketing their personal line of items, including handmade bags, leather accessories, jewelry and clothes. “
Recently, they partnered up with the Mark Cuban Heroes Basketball Center in Dallas to offer free, virtual and in-person entrepreneurship and merchandising classes to children between the ages of 10 and 17. In these classes, they will teach children to design and create their own t-shirts. Sewing lessons are also offered.
“Since we opened our doors in 2006, DDD has supported dozens of aspiring artists and designers with tutoring, YouTube tutorials, hands-on design and production, and equipment and resource recommendations. The Dreams studio also provides space and equipment for artists to produce their creations and market them to clients who enter or visit the Dreams website, ”Porter said.
Several designers who got their start at DDD went on to create and market personal product lines, some starting their own small businesses or marketing their products to stores and boutiques in the area.
