Disney movie accused of having “most embarrassing scene ever” on an aged kiss

A Disney film has been criticized for having “the most embarrassing scene ever” by viewers during a kiss between two actors with a considerable age gap.
Viewers expressed outrage at the 1994 film Blank check, which shows an adult woman kissing a child actor.
The film stars Brian Bonsall as 12-year-old Preston Waters alongside Shay Stanley, an FBI agent in his 30s posing as a bank teller, played by actress Karen Duffy. .
The plot sees the fifth-grader ending up with $ 1 million in cash, and the plot follows Waters’ ridiculous escapades as he spends them and eludes criminals.
But the far-fetched storyline isn’t the film’s only problematic angle, after viewers re-watched the film as adults noticed the questionable kiss shared between the two.
Waters takes Stanley to dinner and gives him some jewelry before trying to set up another date. “So when can I see you again Shay?” he asks, to which she replies, “Why don’t you call me in, say, about ten years?”
They negotiate the deadline, going from five to seven then six years, which Stanley ends up agreeing on, saying: “Okay, this is a date”. But shockingly, she then leans in to kiss the college boy on the lips.
A clip of the film was shared on TikTok by Rob anderson, who said in the onscreen caption: “This Disney movie Blank check has the most embarrassing scene ever. “
Anderson captioned it âImagine being that grown-up actress,â with her music video seen nearly 4 million times since it was uploaded in 2020.
But his video was shared Wednesday on Reddit’s Trashy forum, by @thetypeotakulike, garnering nearly 13,000 upvotes in just a few hours, sparking a new wave of criticism.
While it is not known exactly when the film was shot, Stanley is believed to have been around 32 and Bonsall around 13.
âWait, isn’t that illegal,â Maariyaa asked.
Tcup2020 thought, “As a kid I remember it was a cool scene. But not anymore.”
Klausable7 wrote: “Exactly, I thought it was so cool now, now all I can see is a weird old woman trying to have a 13 year old.”
Robertbnyc asked, “Imagine it was a middle aged guy saying that to a 13 year old girl in a Disney movie like wtf.”
Disney
âI watched that and the actor boy was 13 and the woman was 32 !! In six years he would be 19 but this scene is still fake,â Utterperusal said.
Bong_and_a_blitz commented: “Holy shit !!! I watched this countless times when I was a kid and I don’t remember it ever being something that made me weird⦠but damn shit watching this now as an adult Wtf! So wrong. “
Smurb15 pointed out, “I’m not saying that is an excuse, but it was another era back then. I remember wishing I was in her shoes. I doubt it will hold a candle to the nostalgia that I have. have some. “
Electroniclog agreed, saying: “The early 90s were a strange time …”
Some have drawn parallels to films with similar storylines or scenes, including Fat, released in 1988, starring Tom Hanks. Character Josh Baskin is a 12 year old who wishes to become an adult and wakes up as an adult and shares a kiss with his colleague Susan Lawrence, played by Elizabeth Perkins.
Others highlighted the 1996 film, Beautiful girls, starring Natalie Portman, describing similar themes. The young actress has been chosen to play 13-year-old Marty, who has a crush on Willie, played by Timothy Hutton.
Addressing this role, and those of this era, Portman previously said People: “I was really aware that I was being portrayed … as this character from ‘Lolita’.”
While others have drawn parallels to the cult classic of 1994 Interview with a Vampire, with Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst.
In it, the then 11-year-old Dunst shares a kiss with Pitt, whom she later called “disgusting.” In an interview with Yahoo in 2019, she said, referring to the kiss: âYeah, that was disgusting! I stand by it.
âIt would have been so much scarier if an 11 year old had said, ‘It was awesome. “You’d be like, ‘There is something wrong with this kid.'”
News week has contacted Disney Plus, Bonsall and Duffy for comment.
