TWO friends are hosting an event at a Southend mall after launching their clothing brand in hopes of “inspiring positive change”.

Owners Takondwa Maosa and Daniel Fairhead, both 20, grew up in Southend and hope to ‘spread positivity’ and show young people that there is more to life than falling into crime.

Clothing brand Divided London has already received accolades from sports stars, including boxer Jonathan Kumunteo, footballer Charlie Kelman and British diver Tyler Humphreys.

They will be hosting an event at the Victoria Shopping Center on Saturday to promote their brand after its launch.

Mr Maosa said: “I feel like in our age group there is always a lot of negative stuff about stabbing and violence.

“So for people in the area to see something a little more positive, to see younger people like me, to do something a little more positive and to be a good role model.

“That’s where the ‘Normalize being different’ message comes from, in our brand too, because I feel like people are trying to hide themselves.

“It’s good to normalize being different and being yourself rather than being influenced, because it’s not a crime to be yourself, and that’s the message we’re trying to achieve. to pass. ”

The brand uses the slogan “normalize by being different” in an attempt to encourage people and young people to feel comfortable with themselves, rather than judging themselves by others.

Mr Maosa added: “It’s a clothing company called Divided London and people can see what our clothes look like and look at the brand.

“We were successful in partnering with Just Desserts, in Southend as well, because their target audience is like ours, so it’s a way for people to tie the two together and get something out of it by buying from our brand and in to get a milkshake called Divided London. ”

Daniel Fairhead, added that he had even received messages saying their work inspired them.

“I get messages from people I have never met saying that they are inspired by what we have accomplished so far and how it motivates them to start their own business.

“It’s crazy to see that something we started less than a year ago influences others our age and that motivates Takondwa and myself more than anything.”

The event at the Victoria Shopping Center on Saturday will start at 10:30 a.m. and end around 5:30 p.m.

A number of sports stars and athletes could attend the event to support the two friends, although the big names are yet to be confirmed.
