Jaden Smith designed clothes for tripping over mushrooms for Mr. Porter – Footwear News

Jaden Smith stumbles into Mr. Porter’s latest op-ed.
In a new report highlighting his clothing brand MSFTSrep – co-founded with his sister Willow Smith and a group of friends almost a decade ago – Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s son discusses his brand’s latest collection on Mr. Porter, titled “Trippy Summer.” Although the line’s outerwear and activewear are covered in swirls and bold colors inspired by Smith’s passion for psychedelic mushrooms, the mushrooms don’t just serve as creative inspiration – they’re also designed to be worn while tripping over mushrooms.
“When you’re in that sensitive space, the wrong shirt can ruin things,” Smith told writer Alex Frank in the op-ed. “Things are moving a bit. If you make something feel like it’s moving, when you’re on shrooms and looking at it, your brain will finish the job and set it in motion so you’re like, “Holy shit!” His pants move.
The “Neo-Yokio” star also shared her thoughts on her brand’s recipients, ranging from creatives to those not accepted by society as a whole.
“It’s always about misfits changing the world — being able to stand up for those kids who are getting beat up,” Smith said.
Smith’s outfits in his Mr. Porter op-ed are equally free-spirited, aligning with his vision of MSFTSrep’s clothing to “accompany people’s journeys”. Naturally, the actor wears MSFTSrep pieces layered with grungy everyday staples, like knit cardigans and denim jackets, as well as layers of pearls and silver chains. As for the footwear, he kept it simple in a pair of black leather lace-up derby shoes from the site’s Mr. P house line, allowing the clothes to make the biggest statement.
The “Karate Kid” star’s personal style ranges from skate-inspired to extremely futuristic. His footwear often remains distinctly casual, including sneakers and boots from Louis Vuitton, Nike and Vans – although Smith has worn two different sneakers on several occasions. At one point, the star’s frequent wearing of a pair of black Nike sneakers even prompted his dad to say he “had a pair of shoes.” Smith is also a leading figure in the fashion world. Along with founding his own clothing brand, he’s also starred in Vuitton and Levi’s campaigns, launched collaborations with New Balance, and attended fashion month shows for brands like Hood by Air and Gypsy Sport.
