In the galleries, the 56th edition of the âOwn an Originalâ jury is open until December 31, with works of art submitted by artists and selected by a juror hired by the Littleton Fine Arts Committee. (This series of exhibitions was started by the first art committees in the hope that locals could find a good place to buy holiday gifts for family and friends, and provide an outlet for artists. of the region.)
The museum shop is also a good place to find unique gifts.
Also in the galleries: âThe Secret Life of Clothesâ, an exhibition on the life cycle of clothes, from fiber to finished garment, from sale to storage, then finally to mending, storage or reuse. A variety of fashions as well as tools – materials and context on how clothes were made, maintained, repaired and stored. More on that here …

Are the animals okay in the cold? Yes, they are happy and well cared for, says a recent exit from the museum. “The chickens have heat lamps and their water is heated, and Julie the mule gets extra hay … Cattle including Julie the mule, Ernest the donkey, Fitzgerald and Ford the ox, Jed and Ferdinand, the rams, Bud the bull, Jun the Cow, Blanche the Pig and the flock of sheep – all get beds of straw to regroup and extra calories to generate the necessary body heat and the waterers are warmed up … “
(One can imagine recent conversations with young visitors!)
Finally, the advisory reports that nearly 10,000 visited the recent Harvest Festival, where 900 locally grown pumpkins were sold, 1,140 cupcakes were gobbled up by the kids, along with 70 gallons of cider and 90 pounds of pop. corn! This annual event was organized by 79 volunteers from Friends of the Library / Museum, a long-standing local group that we warmly support. (Information on members at the museum and library counters.)
