No, there is no new Starbucks store in Portland.

Over the past few days, there has been some buzz on social media about the potential to open another Starbucks store on Congress Street in Portland. Starbucks already operates in two prime locations, along Commercial Street near the waterfront and at 594 Congress Street near the Portland Museum of Art. In a city as bustling as Portland, coffee is always in high demand, but could the Old Port really have THREE Starbucks locations?
The answer is no. According to Portland Food Map, the “Starbucks Coming Soon” sign at 229 Congress Street is a joke to draw attention to A&C Grocery’s new location. The popular place announced several months ago that it will be relocating from its long-standing location on Washington Avenue and we are looking for the perfect new space to continue its business. They have found it and plan to open their new location in September.
The original A + C grocery store will operate alongside the new A&C grocery store until the end of 2021 before all operations move to the new location at 229 Congress Street. A & C’s new location will offer an expanded menu as well as a lunch counter. If you’re a fan of A + C’s flavorful menu, fear not. The new location will also continue with favorites.
Sorry Starbucks fans. You will need to find your cold salted caramel infusion with frothed milk in another location. But A&C Grocery can make you a sick sandwich if that interests you.
