SAN ANTONIO – Editor’s Note: This story was published through a Partnership between KSAT and Live from the south, a new local and Latin property magazine which works to improve and expand community relations by promoting events, stories and businesses.
The pandemic has strained many people this year, including the nonprofit Rosie’s Gracious Heart.
The non-profit organization serves the special needs community on the south side of San Antonio by providing food, clothing, hygiene items, and school supplies when needed. They have also hosted Easter, back-to-school and Christmas events for the residents of the Mission Road Development Center for the past four years.

Rosie’s Gracious Heart celebrated the grand opening and ribbon cutting of its new location at 2402 S. Hackberry St. on July 30, then hosted an open house with entertainment. The entire community has been invited to join in the festivities and find out about the services and classes they will be offering the South Side community.
The nonprofit’s dedication ceremony was led by the Business Association of San Antonio, and several local business owners and community leaders were also in attendance.
The mission of the new location is to provide therapy and activities such as art, music and dance therapy, as well as to improve social skills and life skills during all activities.
Rosie’s Gracious Heart was a dream that came to my mind in November 2016 after the tragic passing of founder’s mother Cynthia Garcia, Rosie.
She has worked with children with special needs for over 30 years for the Northside Independent School District. Rosie had a servant’s heart, always giving of her time, loving life and showing compassion to the children she worked with and to others.

After retiring from NISD, she went to work as a teacher for two years at Castle Hills Learning Center and finally as a welcome door at Wal-Mart, where her heart shone through her smile making friends with everyone in the world. ‘she was meeting.
âMom loved life, her heart continues to live on through the blessings shared with others through this organization,â says Garcia. “We may have lost her physically here with us, but her memory and legacy will live on with Rosie’s gracious heart.”
