DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 4, 2022) – Much like two heavyweights in the ring, Eli Tomac and Jason Anderson have fought a merciless battle for supremacy so far in the 2022 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship season. The ninth round continues on Saturday evening with THE race of the year – DAYTONA Supercross – with spectacular weather expected.
In the first eight races of the season, Tomac, who is aiming for a record sixth DAYTONA Supercross, has three wins in the first eight events while Anderson, the 2018 Monster Energy Supercross champion, also has three triumphs. It was a back-and-forth that gave Tomac a narrow 6-point lead in the standings, but Anderson won’t be waving the white flag this weekend just because Tomac had multiple wins at Daytona.
“Yeah, that’s his playground now,” said Anderson, 29, of Edgewood, New Mexico. “The battle was good. I hope to come here and fight him hard. I hope he’s at his best and I’m at my best. The way I get there like “may the best man win”. I’m going to try to stop it”, to win his sixth record.
Anderson was one of more than 20 riders in the 450SX class, in addition to a host of 250SX riders. It was their first time on the Ricky Carmichael-designed course, and despite being winless at Daytona, Anderson is excited about Saturday’s 52.n/a edition of the DAYTONA Supercross.
“It’s a new design and it’s tighter than what we’re used to,” Anderson said. “It’s going to be rough and sandy. The jumps are steep and you have the dirt working against you…you try to hit those triples that are 60-80ft and then try to dodge the bumps and not lose control. I hope to be the first to cross the sandy part of the track so as not to get sprayed in the face.
“I struggled to get a win here, but I’m so hoping to add a win here to my list of accomplishments.”
DAYTONA Supercross kicks off the 81st Annual Bike Week at DAYTONA presented by Monster Energy. The 52n/a The course of the event features the most demanding course of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship season – and the only AMA Supercross event in the state of Florida in 2022.
