Will Abercrombie & Fitch deliver holiday cheer on the same day? – RetailWire

01 Nov 2021
Abercrombie & Fitch Co. has partnered with four different companies – Uber, Shipt, Postmates, Roadie and software provider Delivery Solutions – to launch same day delivery to all of its store base in the United States, including its Abercrombie & Fitch, Abercrombie Kids, Hollister and Gilly Hicks banners.
Same day offer will apply to all clothing inventory in a customer’s local stores. A “Get It Fast” filter on each brand’s website takes browsers to their local store to find available products.
Same-day option complements online in-store pickup, curbside pickup, in-store reservation, in-store shipping, and traditional door-to-door parcel delivery.

“Adding same day delivery to our portfolio increases our last mile delivery capability and further diversify our carrier base, where we were already leveraging regional parcel carriers, UPS, FedEx and now couriers, ”said Larry Grischow, executive vice president of supply chain and purchasing, Barron.
The retailer strives to ensure that same day delivery does not affect their in-store inventory levels under the constraints of the current supply chain. Mr. Grischow said Barron, “We are placing more inventory in stores and getting more e-commerce orders to stores.
A delivery test from a local Abercrombie & Fitch store found that same day delivery cost $ 10, well under $ 22 for next day delivery, $ 15 for two-day delivery, and just under. above the standard fee of $ 7 (four to nine business days). Free shipping is offered on orders over $ 75.
Same-day delivery received a boost during the pandemic as grocery e-commerce took off. Instacart too expanded same-day options for Dick’s Sporting Goods, Bed Bath & Beyond, Sephora, 7-Eleven and other non-food chains, with consumers seeking omnichannel solutions.
In August, Amazon.com extended Prime same-day delivery to 12 cities, in addition to Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, Tampa, Charlotte and Houston.
DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Shipt, owned by Target, also support same-day delivery.
Macy’s, Nordstrom, Saks and Belks have all added same-day options to some or all locations, but same-day delivery from in-house shopping mall chains remains scarce. In June, American Eagle Outfitters (AEO) partnered with FedEx-owned ShopRunner to offer same-day delivery to most major cities for a fee of $ 10.
Michael Rempel, AEO EVP and COO, said in a declaration at the time, “AEO’s approach is customer centric – we leave it up to our customers to choose where, when and how they engage and buy with us.”
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: Is the same day more attractive during the holiday season? Has the same-day opportunity for Abercrombie & Fitch and other clothing chains become more important as the pandemic has progressed?
“With today’s inventory challenges, I suspect anyone who waits until last week will be deeply disappointed.”
